Raleigh City Council Passing Laws To Promote Homosexuality
(See other side for how you can help oppose these actions)
In 1988, the City Council amended the nondiscrimination section of the Municipal Code to add SEXUAL ORIENTATION to the list of protected classes (which previously included age, handicap, sex, race, color, creed, and national origin).
On March 16, 2004, the City Council voted to change the mission statement of the Human Relations Commission (a body of volunteers appointed by and reporting to the council) to add SEXUAL ORIENTATION as follows:
"The City of Raleigh's Human Relations Commission seeks to serve as an advocate for all people regardless of race, color, creed, religion, national origin, gender, SEXUAL ORIENTATION, disability, marital status, economic status, or age in pursuit of human and economic relationships; to promote activities, education and programs which enhance human dignity, equal opportunity and tolerance, and harmony among the many different citizens that make up our City."
On April 6, 2004 the City Council will vote on adding SEXUAL ORIENTATION to the definition of Human Relations in the Municipal Code as follows:
"Human Relations shall mean those activities which promote human dignity, equal opportunity and harmony among the many different citizens who make up the population of the city. This definition shall include those activities and programs classified as promoting the general well being of citizens without regard to race, color, creed, SEXUAL ORIENTATION, gender, age, or national origin in their daily activities."
OUR CONCERNS:
- SEXUAL ORIENTATION really refers to HOMOSEXUALS (or even worse, other “alternative orientations”). Adding it to the list of protected classes has the effect of legitimizing sinful behavior by making it morally equivalent to race, color, gender, age, or national origin. Regarding CREED: Christians consider the worship of any false god as sinful, but that behavior is protected by the first amendment.
- My reading of these statements is that the City of Raleigh must advocate for homosexuals in pursuit of human relationships (gay marriage), and must sponsor educational events which promote the idea that there is nothing wrong with homosexuality (after all, human dignity requires not feeling shame about oneself).
- God abhors homosexual behaviors. If our city to officially advocates and promotes homosexuality, we will be held accountable (including us Christians if we allow it to happen).
- Laws such as these at the county level would require the public school system to teach children that homosexuality is normal, using books such as “King and King” (found in the Wilmington school district, wherein two princes get married), “Daddy’s Roommate,” and “Jack & Jim.” You can read about these on Amazon if you are curious.
- First we need to stop the current proposed changes, but we ultimately need to remove SEXUAL ORIENTATION from 1988 nondiscrimination statement. If we don’t, supporters of homosexuality (and other "alternative orientations") will constantly argue we are discriminating against them by not recognizing their behaviors as acceptable.
What YOU Can Do To Help
You don't have to live in the city of Raleigh to actively oppose this. If you live in North Carolina, you have every right to influence the direction of your state capitol.
SHOW YOUR OPPOSITION IN PERSON:
We need God-fearing Christians to meet on April 6th at 12:30 PM in front of City Hall (222 Hargett Street in downtown Raleigh), in order to protest this action during the 1:00 PM city council meeting. It should last until 4:00PM. It is okay to bring your children.

It will take a sustained effort to remove "sexual orientation" completely from our city code, because it must also be removed from the 1988 non-discrimination ordinance. Please send an email to mikeregan@nc.rr.com, or call (919) 676-9016 and leave your phone number.
