Independence Day Celebration - July 4
- State Capital Building - Enjoy a family-oriented Independence Day celebration with a patriotic concert and picnic. Wander over to the Capitol’s “Old Fashioned 4th” area and see how people in North Carolina celebrated the 4th long ago. Musical performances, food and historic demonstrators round out this patriotic day of fun. Capitol grounds, 11 a.m.-3 p.m.
- State Fair Grounds for good ol' fireworks display - Presented by Raleigh's parks department in collaboration with the N.C. State Fair. Admission and activities, including games, inflatables, live entertainment, music and fireworks, are free.
Free parking is available near Gate 9 Trinity Road. Gates open at 2:30 p.m. and activities start at 3 p.m. Fireworks start at 9:15 p.m.
In the case of bad weather, indoor activities continue, outdoor activities are canceled and the fireworks display will be rescheduled for July 5 at 9 p.m.
- Koka Booth Amphitheatre - Koka Booth Amphitheatre: (919) 462-2025 Celebrate in spectacular style at the Koka Booth Amphitheatre for Cary's Independence Day concert and fireworks. Featuring patriotic music by the Cary Town Band and the North Carolina Symphony, this event is always a huge hit with the entire family.
- Olde Time Celebration at Fred G Bond Park - Cary, NC -- Come join us for an old fashioned celebration of our Nation's birth. Sure to be lots of fun for the entire family, the day begins with a parent-child fishing tournament, followed by a "Parade in the Park," a performance by Applause! Cary Youth Theatre, and a whole host of games and competitions from donut eating to watermelon seed spitting. Registration begins at 7:30 a.m. for the fishing tournament. Parade decorations begin at 9 a.m. This is the perfect way to spend the day before heading to Booth Amphitheatre for the Town's fireworks display.

- Fourth on the Fifth - Independence Day Celebration, Holly Springs, NC
Old fashioned Fourth of July celebration at the Holly Springs Cultural Center and Womble Park. 12-4pm at the Cultural Center: games, contests, decorated bike and wagon contest, apple-bobbing, pie-eating contest, crafts and coloring for kids. Womble Park will offer Fireworks at dark - bring picnic baskets and lawn chairs. Find out more at 919-567-4000.

- Apex Olde Fashioned Fourth of July
Kids will love this 4th of July celebration! The festivities start at 9am with free games, climbing wall, giant slide and inflatables. Musical entertainment, kaoroke, and more. Then, at noon, kids are invited to join Uncle Sam for the 4th of July Parade of Wheels. No registration required to participate in parade, just line up at the corner of Chatham St. and Salem St. by 11:50am. Kids are encourged to show their colors and decorate their bikes and wagons with red, white and blue! Helmets are required for bikers, so plan accordingly. Friday July 4th, 9am-1pm
- Independence Celebration - Fuquay Varina (July 3)

The Town of Fuquay-Varina Parks, Recreation and Cultural Resources Department sponsors this annual event and celebrates Independence Day 2006 with good music, great food, lots of activities and entertainment for children and of course incredible fireworks!
- Festival for the Eno
One of the region's premiere Independence Day celebrations with exhibits, displays, arts, crafts and live entertainment on the banks of the Eno River to benefit efforts to preserve this beautiful natural area. Tickets $13 per day, $10 in advance.

- Family Fourth of July Celebration - Chapel Hill NC
People's parade with marchers in appropriate holiday costume starts 11am at Weaver Street Market lawn and ends at Town Commons, plus family activities, music, face painting, balloon sculptures, games, food and demonstration by the fire department. Free.

- July Fourth Celebration Friday, July 4 - Kenan Memorial Stadium at UNC Chapel Hill Campus
Each year the Chapel Hill Parks & Recreation Department in cooperation with UNC hosts a patriotic July Fourth Fireworks Display at UNC's Kenan Stadium on July 4th. Featuring a live concert and gate attractions face painting, magic and juggling, event is geared towards family fun and a community celebration. The Fireworks shoot at 9:30pm sharp, and are viewed from inside the stadium only. Live entertainment at 8pm. 919-968-2784.
